MEET the tickled pink winners of this year’s Irish Sun/Barnardos colouring competition.

We were once again inundated with entries to the annual contest and talented artist Sarah Corless came out on top thanks to her magnificent work on illustrator Chris Judge’s ‘Community Helpers’ sketch.

Sarah Corless, from Co Galway, came out on top in our competition this year
Two-year-old runner-up Tymek Pilch from Dublin

Sarah, ten, from Clarinbridge, Co Galway is the lucky recipient of a teen bunk bed from kind competition sponsors Harvey Norman.

Speaking of her win she said: “I entered the competition because I love colouring and drawing, I couldn’t believe it when I found out I won.

“I am looking forward to my new bed. Thank you so much Barnardos, Harvey Norman and the Irish Sun.”

Runner up prizes of a cuddly Build A Bear teddy and some new colouring material went to Tymek Pilch, aged just two, from Citywest in Dublin, Saoirse Reddin, six, from Clarehall in Dublin, Jack Murphy, seven, from Nenagh, Co Tipperary, Adam Rogan Egan, eight, from Ballinlough, Co Roscommon and Brid Finn, nine, from Cratloe, Co Clare.

CONGRATULATIONS

Editor of the Irish Sun, Kieran McDaid, paid tribute to our winners and all who entered the 2021 comp.

He said: “Our Barnardos colouring competition is always a highlight of the year, but even more so in times of Covid.

“It brings some colour into our lives, keeps children busy and gives parents a little break, all while raising awareness for a good cause.

“Congratulations to Sarah and all the winners and thanks to everyone who entered. Hopefully we’ll see your excellent work again next year.”

Director of Fundraising at Barnardos, Mary Gamble, said that behind the scenes this year the judges had a very difficult job in deciding the winners of the competition as the standard was so high.

‘WONDERFUL TO SEE’

She said: “We received hundreds of pictures from children as young as two years old across Ireland, the creativity and colour in full display across all the pictures was fantastic!

“It was wonderful to see lots of colourful rainbows on entries this year and we were delighted to see the envelopes bursting with beads & glitter as we opened them.

“The children really seemed to enjoy the theme of the community helpers this year and some told us stories of how they help in their community too. Thank you to all the children who entered the competition and especially to the winners and runners up who went above and beyond with their colouring talents.”

The Irish Sun and Barnardos teamed up for their Build a Brighter Future campaign, which is designed to raise awareness of the life-changing work of Barnardos, a charity which believes every child deserves the right to reach their full potential and provides support to children, young people and families in need all over Ireland.

Adam Rogan Egan, from Roscommon, was also a runner-up in the competition
Brid Finne, nine, from Co Clare also received a Build A Bear Teddy and some new colouring material
