However, some of their neighbours were appalled.

The Reddit post said: “I gave the overweight children that came treat or treating for Halloween apples and fruit and the normal children sweets.”

The person then received an angry letter from a neighbour accusing him of body-shaming kids.

The user explained: “Have gotten a tense letter from one of the parents in my estate after doing this saying I body-shamed her son.

“I did not reply but things have changed with the neighbours is it my fault that I’m actually looking out for the kid’s health when their parents don’t.

“Am I past the point of no return with my neighbours and the parents of the child?

Most reactions from people were astonishment, anger and sourness.

A shocked person said: “What a self-centered busy body you are.

“What’s next – giving soft drinks to alcoholics, gum to smokers, where will it end?”

One person said: “So you potentially set a ‘normal?’ kid on the path to unhealthy eating.

“Or that overweight kid was a skinny one dressed a billy bunter.

“Lucky your apples did not get returned via your windows.”

While another person said: “What a nasty person you are.”

‘NOT YOUR PLACE’

While another added: “Absolutely not your place to do something like this at all and humiliate those poor kids.”

Many people believed that this person was body shaming these children and sided with the neighbours.

One person suggested all they did was upset the child and advised: “Giving a child an apple isn’t looking after their health.

“That takes a constant effort on behalf of their parents from morning to night and obviously also includes how much exercise they do or don’t get.

“You’ll have made zero practical or appreciable difference to the child’s health.”

Another user agreed and said: “That was a horrible thing to do.”

“What those kids consume is none of your business.

“You were acting out of concern but you’ve come across as talking down to your neighbours and I wouldn’t blame them for being cool with you.”

HALLOWEEN ‘TRICK’

A fellow Redditor admitted the intentions were good but “if you’re that concerned about childhood obesity maybe you should have given all the kids fruit.”

The odd person seemed to jokingly agree and others believed it was a great Halloween ‘trick.’

One user said: “I gave the fat kids a 30-day workout and diet plan and I gave the normal kids high fives.”

Meanwhile, many readers reckoned the post was a joke and called the original poster to own up saying “No you didn’t, you just want another excuse for a fat rant on Reddit.”

Many outraged users were left stunned, with some calling the person “insufferable” and “scummy.”
