A POSTMAN has issued an urgent warning to parents after spotting a child in a dangerous situation with blinds.
Postman and councillor Mark Gibbons spotted a child who had a blind’s cord wrapped around their neck during while out delivering letters.

The Northern Ireland postman quickly alerted the parents after noticing the dangerous situation.
Gibbons told Belfast Live: “I started working with the Post Service just before Christmas and was doing my rounds in Warrenpoint when a young fella caught my eye.
“He was having great fun waving away but I felt something was not quite right.
“He had pull cords from blinds around his neck like a necklace, which were not tight at all, but I knew that I had to knock on the door and let the parents know. I would like to think there wouldn’t be anyone who would walk away from something like that.”
WARNING TO PARENTS
He urged parents to be aware of the dangers of blind’s chords and check own window sills and homes.
He continued: “I have only become a father myself so maybe I am a bit more aware of these things, but it is important that parents are aware of the dangers these chords can pose.

“Legislation was passed to make the blind cords more secure, but if they were installed prior to 2014 then they may not be and I hope that people can check their own homes to make sure they are.”
